It took a huge defensive stand and a punt off the side of the North Putnam kicker's foot to give the Speedway Sparkplugs key to victory.

Senior Chris West began the night as the quarterback for the Plugs and suffered through a 2-8 first half before giving way to junior Ryan Huser two possessions into the second. Junior Jeff Schwimmer rushed for 68 of his 94 yards in the first half.

The Cougars' quarterback Cameron Brothers (6'2 165 '04) hit on 13-21 passes for 165 yards hitting A.J. Lehr (5'10 175 '03) 6 times for 79 yards and Darin Taylor (5'11 160 '04) 5 times for 69 yards. Brothers rushed 8 times for 73 yards in the second half, 11-81 for the game.

After going three and out on their first possession, Speedway jumped out to a 10-0 lead early on and were hanging on 10-7 at the break. On the first possession of the second half, the Cougars controlled the ball the first 8:05 on 14 players before fumbling the ball away on the 2-yard line. Speedway went nowhere on their first possession and was forcd to punt. North Put finished off what they started the first time and took a 13-10 lead with 2 seconds to go in the third quarter.

Schwimmer appeared on a mission once Speedway fell behind with a return of the ensuing kickoff to his team's 44-yard line and then taking the first play from scrimmage into the end zone for a touchdown. The touchdown, however, was called back, but three plays later Schwimmer took a pass from Huser down the 6-yard line setting up his touchdown run on the very next play giving Speedway a 17-13 edge. North Put was unable to capture their third-quarter form and fumbled at midfield with 9:04 to go. Speedway was forced to punt at 6:05 and then held North Put once again, thanks to a penalty and a sack, forcing their next punt at the 3:59 mark to net just 1-yard to Cougars' 11-yard line. On the third play from scrimmage, Schwimmer took off for 7 yards to make it 24-13. An interception soon followed and then Huser found West for a 12-yard touchdown pass with 1:11 to go in the game for the final scoring margin.
