Until the 8:33 mark of the 3rd quarter, it appeared the host Avon Orioles were going to pull of a huge home victory over 4A #7 Zionsville just after having blocked a punt and then scoring a touch down two plays later to take a 14-6 lead.

That must have been the wake-up call the visiting Eagles needed.

Eagles' junior quarterback Mark Nicolet (6'1 190) hit #88, who name was cut off from the bottom of the program, two straight times for 19 yads before the Eagles' third quarter drive appeared to stall. They found themselves facing a fourth down and one. Feeding off the energy from the crowd, the Eagles' coach Larry McWhorter decided to go for it. One of the players went off-sides, however, forcing a fourth and six. Out of a punt formation, Nick Huston (5'9 190 '04) took a direct snap and ran the ball up the right sideline for twelve yards. After a reception by Nicolet's favorite target Jeff Wraley (5'8 150 '04) put the ball on the 9, two short runs later Wraley stretched out for a diving catch and a touchdown which tied the game. The moment clearly in the Eagles' favor.

Noah Lucas (5'11 186 '03) blocked Avon's punt on the following possession and it was recovered for a touchdown to make it 21-14 Zionsville. Just before the quarter would conclude, Avon was able to muff the kick-off and then saw their quarterback sacked by, you guessed it, Lucas pinning them back on their 2 yard line heading into the fourth quarter. This time, John Jewett (6'2 178 '03) caught up with the Orioles' QB and this time it was in the end zone forcing a fumble and an Eagle recovery for a touchdown and a 28-14 advantage.

Avon was able to respond with a great 49 yard touchdown reception by Dontae Hart (5'10 241 '03) after catching the ball in the right flat and turning it middle for the long run cutting it to 28-21, but two possesions later Nicolet opened up another drive with a 26 yard strike to Wraley for a touchdown (35-21). After an interception by Matt Gordon (5'6 146 '03), Nicolet went deep again, this time with 0:53.9 to go and to #88 on a fade for 31 yards and a 41-21 win for the Eagles.

Nicolet finished the game 9-19 for 132 yards, three touchdowns and 1 interception while rushing seven times for 44 yards. Drew Cripe (5'10 172 '03) rushed 18 times for 60 yards and Wraley caught five passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

For the Orioles, freshman quarterback Tyler Haston (6'3 185) was 8-10 for 101 yards, two TD's and an INT. Hart ran 13 times for 73 yards and a touchdown to go with his 49 yard TD reception. Sophomore Tim Schrock (5'7 150) ran eight times for 58 yards.
