Posted by Nick Morgan Groover (6'0 PF '05) Elwood - 25 points in the first game, a 51-49 win over Eastern. Then, had 19 points and 12 boards despite playing under three quarters due to foul trouble in their win over Sheridan last night. Jodi Howell (5'11 G/F '05) Alexandria-Monroe - Had 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in the Tigers' opening game 73-46 win over Hamilton Heights. Kiley Jarrett (5'2 PG '05) and Whitney Thomas (6'0 G/F '05) Bloomington North - Jarrett scored 20 of her 24 points in the second half of BHSN's 68-64 loss to Southport this week. In that same game, possibility the freshman with the most potential in the state, Thomas contributed 13 points for the Cougars. Leah Phillips (5'6 PG '05) Castle - Scored 17 points in the Knights' opening game win at Washington, then had 20 points in yesterday's win over Bedford-North Lawrence. Phillips was the team's leading scorer in both contests, but excels on the defensive end. Jerri Taylor (5'8 G '05) SB Clay - Had a team-high 19 points for the Colonials in their season-opening loss to East Chicago Central. Touted by their coach as having a lot of their potential. I've never seen her play, however. Mara Freshour (5'9 G '05) Brown County - Very talented slasher had 13 points in her team's first game, a 67-16 thrashing of Edinburgh. Expect big things from Freshour. Aimee Litka (5'9 G/F '05) SB St. Joseph - Coach Megyese got 25 points from Litka in their season-opener against LaSalle. Breanna Howell (5'5 G '05) Eastern-Howard - Hit five three's and tallied 17 points in her first game, the 51-49 loss to Elwood and Groover. Selena Freeman (5'6 PG '05) Martinsville - Played about half the game in her first two varsity contests, contributed 11 points, 4 assists and 4 steals primarily during the second half of the Lady Artesians' 62-55 win over Plainfield last night, after scoring 16 points in the JV game earlier in two quarters. Trisha Bennett (5'3 PG '05) Kristin Edwards (5'2 PG '05) Scottsburg - Both of these players are very good, although Bennett scored 23 points in the opener will overshadow Edwards ... that is, until Edwards puts up possibly the same numbers in the next game. Both players are capable, are good ball-handlers, good defenders and play hard. * There are plenty more I'm positive, but these twelve kids I remembered off top of my head as putting up huge numbers and/or being MAJOR factors for their teams right off the bat in Indiana. ** Also remember, I think there are several good centers in this class, but some of those centers haven't developed as much as the guards but keep an eye out on 6'2 Plus players from Huntington North, Cathedral, New Albany, a forward from Valparaiso, etc.
