the required distance to use cs gas is no closer than three feet i know this cause during some recent research on the chlorbenzylidenmalononitril chemical that is commonly known as cs gas i seen many reports on the government testing of this defence weapon and any closer than three feet would cause blistering and burns to the skin. the police know the guidelines on the use of cs gas but in some cases depending on the situation and heat of the moment sometimes it is possible for guidelines to be overlooked if cs gas has been used upon yourself then the only way it can be treated is by washing in cold water if you use hot water then it will open the pores and the gas will seep in to the pores making the skin burn and blister even more. there is no defence against cs gas but some trials have been carried out and it has been found that simple powders such as non perfumed talc and flour have been affective in soaking up the chemical on the skin before washing in cold water.
