By that I meant not to dismiss Asimov's work ( I think he's one of the best SF Authors I've read ), but that others often do because he tends to use fairly simple plot devices ( to great effect, and with their own complexity within ), and is perhaps more renowned for his novellos than huge works of a complex political and social nature with numerous complex sub-plots and interwoven dependencies. Asimov is frequently seen as 'more easy going' and 'an easier read' by many, which is why I think his contributions are often considered less worthy than other 'epic pieces'. In my opinion, complex, meandering and difficult to follow plots do not necessarily make a great book.
