I had checked out this website immediately prior to my surgery for an inguinal hernia, just to see if there was anything to look out for.
It's now 48 hrs after the open-incision procedure, and I'm delighted to say things are looking up. The worst part of it was (and this is my "diagnosis") that I picked up a stomach "bug" during or after the procedure. What followed was about a day of confusion over what was causing the (rather painful) vomiting: painkiller, antibiotic, or otherwise. When I wasn't puking, I was sleeping; I didn't remember that being part of the prognosis.
The surgeon told me to stop all the meds and just take ibuprofen or acetaminophen. By the time the vomiting stopped, the pain from the procedure subsided as well. So now I can finally eat, and have no need for even NSAIDs. Swelling has stabilized and no drainage is evident.
So add one to the "happy" score. -- Marshall
