My husband had a left inguinal hernia repaired in 2001.
He had severe discomfort right from the recovery room. He spent a few weeks on pain killers and even returned to his surgeon several times looking for a reason for the pain.
During recovery he developed an infection that was resolved with antibiotics.
As time went on he realized he was getting a "bee stinging" feeling in his groin and pains down his leg. It hurts often to walk, sit, stand…
After many visits to the surgeon he was finally sent to a pain management doctor who determined the problem was damage to a nerve. I believe it to be the inguinal nerve.
Nerve damage has since been confirmed by another surgeon.
We were told there is nothing to do but live with it unless he wanted to take meds like neurontin, (he doesn't).
Anyway, a few days ago he went to he general doctor because of stomach pains, possible GERD. While getting up from the table the doctor saw something and told him to lay down and get up again.
To side bar a bit; do to the pain from the botched hernia he doesn't usually get up in the manner the doctor asked him to. Since then, from the strain of sitting straight up from lying down position he is having some discomfort in the groin area.
To get back on track; the doctor saw what he believes to be a Ventral Hernia.
After research online the only reason I found for a Ventral (Incisional) Hernia is a past surgery. The only surgery he has had has been the inguinal hernia repair.
The Ventral hernia is above his belly button. I need to find out if they can be connected even though they seem to be a fair distance apart.
I have been unable to find any connection online.
If there is anyone out there who has either had this scenario or is a doctor who can explain the possible connection to me I would appreciate it.
He has an appointment with a surgeon on Tuesday and we would like to walk in there a bit educated.
Thank you in advance for help,
Robin
