Why am I having a Pelvic MRI when I already had a Pelvic CT Scan?

My hernia surgeon sent me for a Pelvic CT Scan 3 weeks ago because of left side pelvic pain from past hernia surgery. I just saw him again today and he now is sending me for a Pelvic MRI. What is the difference? Why would he do this? He is talking about more surgery but wants an MRI first. Thanks for your response. Oh...He also told me that he put tacks in the tendons NOT the bone in the pelvis to hold the mesh in place.
