Through your comments and suggestions that I see a "Hernia Specialist" I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Meyers in Philadelphia. The appointment and MRI will be covered by my insurance. However the procedure is deemed "experimental" by the insurance companies, and will not be covered by insurance. The procedure costs $15,000.00, which I would pay if I knew I could be pain free. .Do you have any idea why this would be experimental? Dr. Meyers' assistant explained that Dr. Meyers uses a special MRI that finds what he called pubalgia, or a sports hernia.
My question is for you, kind, Hernia MD, have you heard of this approach. His assistant said that if this is found, it would be an open procedure suturing the "tears", needing only one night stay in the hospital.
I'm just afraid that the two old hernias that are seemingly causing me this terrible pain would be overlooked.
To any one else on this board, have any of you had any dealings with Dr. Meyers.
I read that one respondent had issues after this procedure, and the doctor basically avoided him, and sent him packing.
I'm hoping this was an isolated incident, because after three years of terrible pain, all I need is a new problem.
I thank you for your time with this matter, and appreciate your help.
Sincerely,
Tara Jeanne
