There IS a lightweight single layer mesh that -- UltraPro made by Ethicon. It is, I think, the same type of mesh they use in their lightweight dual-layer system. If I were having a first small, inguinal hernia surgery done today, I would probably find a very skilled laparascopic hernia surgeon and have them do a repair using a single layer lightweight mesh. There's also a biological mesh made out of pigskin. I don't know the research about it's longterm effectiveness, but for people who do not do well with mesh it does seem attractive, too. I wonder if HerniaMD has opinions about pigskin "mesh"???
