Hi HerniaMD,
Thanks for your response to my previous post.
Another question: I was looking at the Ethicon Inc website and wondering how the doctor decides what product to use for a bilateral inguinal hernia. Does he/she decide after the surgery has actually begun and upon seeing each hernia? Does he stick to the predetermined small/med/large sizing or can he trim the actual mesh before putting it in?
In your experience, which product is best to ensure the least post operative complications (particularly to the testicles, vas deferens, general reproductive capabilities)?
ultrapro mesh vs. prolene mesh
ultrapro mesh vs. ultrapro system
mesh vs. plug and mesh
etc.
I'll spare you listing all the various permutations of comparison :-)
I guess we just don't understand how a doc determines whether to use a mesh alone vs. its "system" counterpart and which method has been shown to cause the least post op complications. Thoughts?
Thanks, HerniaMD!
Lilah
