I have a left inguinal hernia and I have gotten tremendous relief from a hernia belt a relative purchased for me. I wouldn't have considered getting one myself, thought it would be a waste of money and effort. I will delay surgery as long as it continues to work as well as it has the last month . I went from being in constant pain to being, nearly pain free with few restrictions on my ability to perform my job as a carpenter.
I'm not suggesting that it will work for you or anybody else,or that it is a good idea, this is my unique experience, before considering wearing a support belt , consult your physician
I suppose there is a chance of the hernia being entrapped , but it's my opinion after learning about all the complications related to mesh, combined with not being able to find a qualified hernia specialist in the area I live in, that it's a risk I'm willing to take. Here is a link to the belt I use, there is nothing special about this paticular brand, there are many other similar and probably better support belts on the market, do a google search.
