Hernia MD question: Hematoma

I had laparoscopic dual inguinal hernia repair in April 2009 and have a large hematoma to the left of my navel. The bulge is noticeable and I have occasional discomfort. It is sometimes painful to the touch. The doctor said this "should" go away, but I am considering a second opinion. How long does a hematoma usually last?
