Don't feel guilty about not having or getting more information -- it's not your fault. In my case my GP and the surgeon both mentioned mesh, but neither, including the surgeon, said anything about a plug. The surgeon even wrote in his surgical report that he had told me about potential risks and complications, etc., including "related to the use of mesh." Notice no mention of the plug. And I trusted, because my GP said "they all do it the same and they all use mesh these days." It wasn't until much later, when I started to have problems, that I began reading, asking questions, and figuring some things out. And I'm still learning, as most of us are who are still searching for answers and improvement. So, it's worth asking your doctor whether a plug was used, although it sounds like it wasn't.
