I recently had a routine physical where it was discovered I have a right inguinal hernia with the possibility of having a budding left inguinal hernia. Both disappear when lying down and I can push both back into place. I didn't even know I had them until my physical and the symptoms are minimal at best if any. I will most likely opt to have them repaired. If I do infact have bilateral hernias should I opt to have them repaired at the same time. Can you repair bilateral hernias with either the open or laparoscopic surgery? If done with open sugary will there be two incisions rather than one or one longer incision? One more question, more of a concern. I have been hearing more talk about MRSA in hospital environments along with a particularly freaky flesh eating bacteria called Necrotizing Fasciitis. I have read that while rare, risks for Necrotizing Fasciitis increase from hernia repair surgery. I wonder what your thoughts about this and whether there is an increased risk for this with laparoscopic surgery.
