I had open surgery in May 2007 for right inguinal hernia. In August - September 2007 I had SEVERE pain and had several steroidal shots in the area of the incision. I was told there was injury or scar tissue on the ilioinguinal nerve. The pain - much less than at its height - persists 24/7. The only treatment I have had (other than the shots in 2007) was that I took a low dosage of Elavil for about a year (it tricks the mind into believing you do not hurt). The pain lessened enough to get off this drug, but it still persists - I can workout, but I cannot run, bike or play golf.
Is there some treatment I should be pursuing? Will this lessen on its own over time? Should I have an MRI to look at this?
Thanks.
