failure causes include a disrupted wrap from failed sutures, a wrap that slides into the chest, a short esophagus, and a twisted or scarred wrap. There are some other causes as well. A Hill repair is a specific suture repair that was popular before the Nissen repair. A new repair will have the best success if the hiatus is repaired properly and the dissection is adequate to allow a tension free wrap. Also, if the esophagus is short, a lengthening procedure must be done.
