I'm new here, just found this informative site.
I'm having my 6th hernia repair on Thursday, 5/7. I had two on my right side, then a large one with mesh patch, three year's ago on the left side. I had RNY Bariatric Surgery 8 months ago at Valley Care Hospital in Pleasanton, Ca.
The Doctor that did the RNY said he had to repair 2 hernia's on the right side while he was in there.
Now, I have another one on the left side, it seems it's come out on the side of the mesh patch.
This time my doctor said he is no longer doing any laparoscopic for hernia repairs as there are too many reoccurrences.
So this will be open surgery.
I asked him about issues with the mesh, he showed my just what he's been using for 22 year's. He said he's never had one tear and it's not on the recall list. So, I have to have faith in him, by all investigations he's a respected and experienced surgeon.
Hopefully this will be the end of it, I told him to just "Put in a zipper" and it will be easier if it happens again.
He said I might be in the hospital for 2 or 3 days?? Has anyone been in longer that?
I've lost 102 lbs since the RNY, so maybe there won't be too much fatty tissue to work around..yea.
Thanks for all your information here, I'll post again when I'm done and home..
