A CT scan may be of help if there is pain without physical findings. An experienced surgeon will be able to tell if you have a hernia without any imaging. It is difficult to say what repair I would recommend for you without an evaluation. For most active men, I prefer an endoscopic repair. This results in a quick recovery and a very low rate of recurrence (< 1%). See Dr. Dennis Fowler. He is a well know expert and in your area.
