The mesh is on the inside of the muscle and really can't pull away. There is no place for it to go. The tissue grows into the mesh and holds it in place. Tacks are not really needed and when used are there to hold the mesh just for a few days until the tissue grows in. There is virtually NO evidence that the use of tacks in lap inguinal hernia surgery leads to fewer recurrences. suspect that your pain is from a muscle strain rather than a failed hernia repair.
