Lap is safer and more effective in experienced hands. The groin hernia is fixed without slashing into it with a scalpel like you do with an open repair. Lipomas should be removed because they can be confused with a recurrent hernia and can cause symptoms. We see lipomas quite frequently. A large lipoma IS a hernia since it represents retroperitoneal fat herniating into the inguinal canal. I don't know anyone in that area. You could check the American Hernia Society website or yourhernia.com
