Hi all. I had a bilaterial lap hernia repair done just about 6 weeks ago - with tacks. Saw the surgeon 10 days after the procedure, he cleared me to go back to the gym. I took off a bit more, then started exercising more at ~4 weeks later (weightlifting & exercise bike -- both at lower weight/intensity than I am used to).
My privates are still a bit swollen (not unseemly, just look "full," if you know what I mean), and this afternoon (the first day after I re-started doing lat pulldowns), I had some pain in the right side, near the hip joint. Felt almost like I was being pricked with pins, and maybe a little burning down the leg too. It was bad enough that, when 1 of my co-workers walked into my office to ask me a question, he took a look at me and asked if I was OK.
An ibuprofen seemed to beat it back temporarily, but I'm a little concerned. Has this happened to anybody? Is this worth bugging the surgeon -- and if so, what (if anything) can be done about these 2 issues? Alternatively, am I expecting too much at this point in time? How much time should I give it?
I'm an active guy. The idea of not being able to exercise is not an appealing thought.
Thanks for any thoughts and insight you can provide.
