short story - I ride road bikes and there are like 600 people I know that ride in Los Angeles - I ran into a really great cyclist that I have not seen in over a year - very young fit guy - he looks like he was in distress and as the story unfolded it turns out he had a lap done in 3/08 and something went bad, bad nerve issues in an area one does not want them. He was all set to have a nerve block but made an appt with my dr instead - on the cat scan from the same hospital she was able to see the mesh bunched up - unreal. anyhow, surgery has been scheduled for the 26th, this next monday to correct this and also do the other side - a few weeks ago she gave him a block to give him some relief and he had bad reaction to it and wound up in the ER! my point being that he thought he was going to one of the best guys - the dr i believe works out of cedars, one of the top places here in the US and he even had a bad time with my dr with the block - just because its a common procedure does not mean its an easy one - its a snap for the dr but for us its very painful and the recovery can be a nightmare - for me I would do anything to get in front of the best dr and the same would hold true if something went south - I would fly to the best to get repaired. The uk sometimes very different takes on medicine than the us - this is not to say its bad but like in the case of my broken ankle - in the uk they always take out the hardware - in the us never. might be worth going somewhere else, out of your area for a diff opinion.
