PT, I am sorry that you have had a complication from your surgery. I hope you come through okay. Patients must be aware of the risk of testicular atrophy after hernia surgery, but the risk is GREATEST with OPEN surgery. The cord is dissected and handled MUCH more with an open procedure. Your advice to other patients is not accurate. If one is concerned about testicular atrophy, especially with a recurrent hernia repair, the laparoscopic repair is safest.
