if he does both then why open vs the lap. I had lap and I drove a stick the next day, rode a road bike in a week, did not take a single pill, had no pain and I have zero scars - my research said this sort of recovery was not possible with open so I am wondering why someone that does both chooses open over lap. all I can say is when I saw where the scar would have been, right where I have a bend on the saddle it was an easy call. I did not want to be up so a general was a moot point for me.
Doctors love open because its a snap for them, they make much of the same money for far less effort. this does not often translate into what is best for the patient.
I am not trying to question your doctor, just wondering.
