get the lap repair. It is by far the best choice for bilateral hernias. Most skilled prostate surgeons can deal with the scaring from hernia surgery if prostate surgery is needed later. Open repairs with the Prolene Hernia System or the UHS also place mesh in the same location as the lap repair. Don't fool yourself into thinking that an open repair will make prostate surgery easy down the road if needed. You should do what is best for the current condition. Go with the lap repair.
