Had open surgery last Monday (7/14) to repair a medium sized inguinal hernia on my right side. Per your advice, I went with an experience surgeon (SAGS & Hernia society member; said he's done several hundred repairs). The surgeon used an Ethicon "combination" mesh product and the J&J sales rep even watched my surgery (I said it was okay for her to watch since I was out cold anyways).
The surgery went fine, and the recovery has been faster/better than I expected. I didn't even need to use the pain killer (vikes) that were prescribed to me. Mostly I just needed an ice pack and some rest.
I did a post-op follow up visit today. I'm still a little sore and , but everthing is healing very nicely. The surgeon also cleared me today to resume cardio and pullups/reasonable weightlifting.
This message board has been very helpful, and so has your guidance, HerniaMD. Thank you.
