In my opinion, the Prolene Hernia System or, better yet, the UltraPro Hernia System (both made by Ethicon) are the best devices for an open inguinal hernia repair at this time. I am not alone in this opinion as a majority of true hernia surgeons in this country prefer theses products over all others. Having said that, I also perform an extraperitoneal endoscopic repair (aka laparoscopic repair) of inguinal hernias in selected patients. I don't know which approach is best for your hernia.
