Yari, what your doc told you confuses me also. The repair should clear up the pain. I had a pain in my abdomen for 20 years. Started out just a couple of times a year and over the years increased in frequency and intensity until I got an incarceration. Then I went to the doc, he diagnosed it and repaired it. I am very physically active and am glad I had it repaired. Now on the flip side of that, I have a sister who was in a very bad car accident 20 years ago and as a result of that she is not very physically active. She has a hernia in the same place I did. Her doc (not the same as my doc) has not recommended her to get hers repaired. Hers is easily reducible and really doesn't cause her much pain. She has had hers for over 10 years. Hers does "pop out" more often than it used to, but she is still just keeping an eye on it. Hope this helps.
