Yari described a hernia with "moderate pain". There is little role for observation for this type of hernia. If a surgeon is recommending surgery, he/she needs to convey a sense of confidence about the decision and the outcome. Post hernia pain syndromes are uncommon and it is a different pain from the "hernia pain" which does go away with repair. I spend quite a bit of time with my patients before surgery. My answers on this board are short and to the point.
