These really are questions for your surgeon and/or his staff. You should ask and have answered all your questions -- no matter how trivial you might think they are -- before you head in for surgery. Knowledge is both comfort and power.
Yes, chances are good you'll have some pain. It's manageable. But you should find out about what kind of anesthesia will be used, if mesh will be used, how long you'll be in the hospital, how long you'll be off work, how you should expect your healing to progress, etc.
Make a list of your questions, call your surgeon's office, and ask.
