A casual laparoscopic surgeon will be a little reluctant to do a lap repair on you because of this previous surgery. Your previous surgery, however, does not preclude a laparoscopic repair. If you decide to have an open repair, one side at a time, the UltraPro hernia System repair is the best technique and mesh.”
I found another surgeon on the SAGES website and had an exam with him. He is at Emory Clinic at Emory University. He examined me and this is his opinion:
He recommends a TAPP repair of both sides using a Parietex patch. He uses 2 tacks to anchor the patch. The tacks are a new type of absorbable tack. He thinks doing a lap repair will work fine despite my previous surgery. If he does encounter too much scar tissue, he will switch over to an open repair. He also said if I’m too concerned about anesthesia that he would be glad to do an open procedure but the lap repair with anesthesia should be just fine.
This sounds more in line with what you have suggested than my previous surgeon. Do you agree with what he says? What do you think of the Parietex patch and the absorbable tacks?
