I went through the same rationale... mine (bilateral, inguinal) were diagnosed over a year ago during a routine physical. Over the past year, one had gotten larger & I was becoming more aware that they were there (playing peek-a-boo when coughing/sneezing). My mindset for getting them done was this: I'm not getting any younger (43), and they're not going to go away. The longer I wait, the greater risk of complications & recovery will probably be longer & more difficult. So, decided to suck it up & get it done. Went in first thing in the morning & was home by noon. Pain was manageable the first few days, & have been getting better ever since (8 days now). Still have some swelling & mild discomfort, but not to the point where I need pain relievers. Is not as bad as I thought it would be- especially after reading some of the stories on this board.
That said, I think it's next to impossible to predict how you'll come out of it. Everyone's surgery will go differently, as will the healing process. You just gotta get 'er done & see how it goes.
