I'm just over 1 week post-op on a bilateral inguinal open repair. My pain has been very low-level from day one. I took vicodin the first few days, but have been off all pain-relievers for the past 4-1/2 days. I wouldn't say I have significant pain... just a low-level, tolerable discomfort which appears to be mostly associated with the swelling. The day of my surgery, I was up & down quite a bit- a few winces of pain here & there, but no where near what I was expecting. Sitting upright in a chair is uncomfortable, as is driving, but other than that, it has really been amazingly tolerable. Have talked to other guys & most of their incisions were in the crease on either side of their pelvic girdle. My incisions were more horizontal, about 2.5" long each, and inward from the creases of my pelvic girdle. I think that has helped. At my post-op on thursday, I was concerned about the swelling- since it really hadn't gone down at all since surgery, but my surgeon said that for one week out, I was doing extremely well. I think most of the original pain I was experiencing was probably from the gauze bandages pulling on my skin. But so far... it's been great.
