Hello,
I was a regular poster for awhile but have been away for awhile.
I had a small incisional hernia repair with GoreTex mesh about 2 years ago. About a month or so ago, I started experiencing burning and stinging pain in the same area where the hernia was. I also had a pulling/tearing sensation in that area. I don't see a bulge or lump. The pain is worse when I lean forward, and becomes worse after I've been sitting awhile.
I saw my family doctor a few weeks ago. He said he didn't feel a hernia, but noted that "emergent" hernias sometimes only show up on a CT scan.
We discussed the possibility that I had simply strained a muscle or aggravated some scar tissue through shoveling snow, working out, etc. He offered to send me to a surgeon in case I had a hernia, but we decided to initially treat it like a muscle problem. I've been taking prescription-level extended release Alleve 2x per day for a couple of weeks. The pain is better, but definitely not gone.
These are certainly some of the same symptoms I experienced with my first hernia; however, that one had an obvious bulge, and I don't have that now.
What do you all think? Should I see a surgeon if this doesn't go away in a few weeks?
