I have already had the 2 inguinal hernia surgeries, my right side at the end of Oct 2007 and then my left side 5 weeks ago. They were both done with the mesh plug technique, my right side gets the odd twinge of pain still and my left side seems to be healing fine, a little discomfort at times but my surgon says thats normal.I have researched the mesh plug technique on the internet and have found more surgeons in favor of it than against it.Some experts say that their is more post op pain with the mesh plug technique, but just the same there are many surgeons saying in trials they have done that there is less post op pain and a way lower recurrence rate. An old co worker of mine had the mesh plug repair done 5 years ago and was power lifting within 4-5 days and has had no post op pain since, while my nextdoor neighbour had the Lichenstein mesh patch repair and had a recurrence 2 years later. He was told to get the mesh plug repair which he did. When he got it done he said there was way less pain and was back bricklaying in 2 weeks. My surgeon says the mesh plug is stronger than patch anyways so when the new tissue grows in and around the mesh plug it secures it place and becomes a good reinfocement.
