A hernia is NEVER too small to fix laparoscopically. Would a big gash in the front of the groin cutting through all the muscle layers be "less invasive" that a minimally invasive lap repair? Of course not. I don't think what you have been told is at all accurate. It may be an open repair is fine, but you may very well be a good candidate for a lap repair.
