This is a tough decision. If your CAT scan does not show anything, it may be appropriate to do a laparoscopy and inspect the groin for recurrent hernias, adhesions, etc. It may look just fine. If everything looks good, you can make an argument to remove the mesh and replace it with ultrapro or a biologic mesh such as alloderm. This should only be done by a high level hernia specialist with excellent laparoscopic experience.
