I had my laporascopic repair in March 2007 (right side inguinal). My surgeon said I could do anything I wanted but I should "listen to my body". I was walking several miles two days after surgery, then resumed my running (albeit slowly) a few days later. I jogged a 16 mile long run 11 days postop and this gave me the confidence to run the Boston Marathon 26 days after my surgery. I didn't push hard on the marathon and finished about 40 minutes slower than I probably would have if I had not had the surgery, but it was a thrill. Your mileage may vary.
