The prior 3 were "open". Thank you for your response. Based on my internet research, this is also what I thought. The only other question I have then is the placement of the mesh. The lapro surgeon is being vague about its placement and I have a 2nd appt w/him to discuss the procedure in more detail. From what I've researched on the web, the mesh should be placed behind the hole, ie on the interior of the wall between the protruding tissue and the herniated wall (as opposed to the exterior of this wall). I assume an exterior placement would put the mesh closer to the underside of the skin layer and could possibly be 'felt' by touching the skin, as was in the case with my friend. Can lapro place the mesh between the protruding tissue and the herniated wall? (Sorry for the lack of technical terminology, I'm not in the medical field)
