This is my 4th inquinal hernia. Last operation was about 8 yrs ago. About 8 years prior was my 2nd. And about 8 yrs before that was the first. All have occured on left side. I have seen 2 surgeons in my area and both want to perform different procedures. Dr 1) Open surgury placing mesh behind wall; Dr 2) Laproscopic surgury placing mesh over opening (assuming exterior of wall). Given this is my 4th operation on this side, I want it done to my satisfaction and properly given my history. Which would be the best procedure? Also, a friend had hernia surgury some time ago and the mesh (or scare tissue from it) can be felt by touching his exterior. I do not want this. Dr 1 says he can place mesh on inside of abdominal wall. I assume this to be on the INSIDE of the tissue from which the hernia breaks through. Dr 2 says there is neither an inside or an outside. He will place the mesh over the opening. By this I assume he means the exterior of the abdominal wall. I am concerned as to which procedure is best and I do not want the mesh to be 'felt'. If there is a hole there must be 2 sides. Can the mesh be stitched in place on the interior of this hole?
