once again SJO, you have done your homework. As pointed out in this reply, there are FEWER reoperations for recurrent inguinal hernias with the use of mesh. It is well known that a reoperation in the groin carries a risk of injury to the Vas Deferens as well as testicular atrophy. Both of these conditions lead to infertility. One could conclude that the use of mesh DECREASES the risk of infertility over hernia repairs done without mesh.
