: That's a very good observation, Todd. One possibility for this
: is that elements from both scenarios were taken in an attempt to
: "broaden the appeal" of the series, by making it work
: on two different levels. The "Wizard of Oz"
: interpretation would be aimed at younger viewers, and the
: "Narnia" elements aimed at older, more cynical
: viewers.
Could be. The obvious difference between the cartoon and the Chronicles of Narnia is that the Earth children brought to Narnia are (with the exception of Eustace in the early chapters of "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader") willing participants in the quests they undertake, and know what they need to do. "Cynical" is definitely the word to describe how Dungeon Master's means of handling the situation differs from Aslan's.

: I know that "Requiem" is not "official"
: canon. But the idea that Venger looked more "human"
: at one time is not a problem as far as I am concerned. My
: personal theory (developed for the purpose of writing my
: "Harry Potter" crossover fanfic,) is that Venger is a
: powerful wizard whose "regular" physical appearance
: was the result of his practicing the Dark Arts (specifically,
: the creation of one or more horcruxes.) Not canon, but
: serviceable . . . .
I had one crazy notion about Venger and Kareena (which, incidentally, relies on the "Venger is Dungeon Master's adoptive son, not his literal son" theory), which may not be all that probable, but which I can't resist mentioning here. In this scenario, Venger and Kareena were both members of an earlier group of "Young Ones" brought into the Realm from another world (maybe Earth, maybe another place entirely), back when a different "Dark Lord" was threatening the place. This "Dark Lord" kept on destroying the earlier band's attempts to get home until they snapped and decided to face him in the Dragon's Graveyard (just as the "Young Ones" we know did) to get rid of him and stop him from destroying the portal they were about to pass through before they could use it. Unfortunately, this group didn't have a change of heart, but *did* kill the previous "Dark Lord" - and as a result, were altered by their deed to become his successors, with Venger (who probably delivered the killing blow) as the new "Dark Lord" in particular. What happened to the rest of the group, other than Venger and Kareena, I won't even try to guess.
