Thanks for the answers, everyone. Really, I mainly wanted to create discussion here, and to ask if there was any evidence in the series itself one way or the other.

I must confess, I have some stories that I want to write in the back of my mind as well, (if real life ever allows me to write) but I don't want to intrude upon your own stories.
On the other hand, (and this has nothign to do with the DM question I had above), I always liked building off of other people's fanfiction, (kind of a "shared universe" thing). I like mentioning locations and characters from other people's fanfiction. I like having characters make passing comments like how they're originally from a different kingdom, (and it's a kingdom featured in another fanfic). That sort of thing.
