: The last I heard of a project to animate the Requiem script have
: been abandoned, because they simply didn't have the time to
: finish. It just vanished one day. I'd say "I'm
: sorry" but honestly, I'm not. I thought Requiem was a
: terrible script. To be fair to Mr. Reaves, the only form we have
: is a first draft, so I'm sure a lot would have been changed
: before production. I think it could use lot of rewrites to bring
: it in line with the rest of the series, which it basically
: ignores, all for the sake of making an ending.
I remember the same thing, that the person doing the animation was putting in so much time on the project that his personal life suffered. Unfortunately I can't even remember his name, much less find contact info.
Since we're being honest... I too dislike the Requiem script a lot. (Didn't like the script for Cave of the Fairie Dragons, either, but some things can't be helped.) That's not to say it didn't have potential, but I think you're right that it would have undergone a LOT of changes before production, like most of the scripts probably did. Having read the first draft of Last Illusion and then comparing it to the final product that aired, well, I didn't recognize the second half at all. I can't even say it was a "rewrite." It was more like they tossed the entire second half in the garbage and started over.
:
: One glaring flaw in the draft is Sheila's actions. Setting aside
: her unspoken relationship with Hank, the fact remains that the
: Sheila we are familiar with would never, ever abandon her little
: brother, not even for the chance to go home. There are other
: things, but that stood out the most for me because I have a
: little brother myself. I'd never leave him behind!
:
Agreed. Absolutely agreed. Sheila was entirely out of character in the script. But the part that really bugged me the most? It was the fact that Venger never actually chose redemption for himself. Turn the key, and POOF! It's forced on him whether he wanted it or not. What a cop-out. I would have liked Venger to display a change of heart or something that meant he actually WANTED to be redeemed, not going out of his way to try to prevent it. Or even, if all else failed, he could have said something at the end like, "Wow, I can't believe that worked! I was caught in this evil spell all this time, and I wasn't allowed to get near the key and save myself, so I had to trick you guys into doing it for me because you never would have believed me if I just asked!" ANYTHING to indicate that Venger, of his own free will, had purposely chosen not to be the bad guy any more. Redemption has to start from within, after all.
:
: All things aside, creating some new animation would be fun, and
: I'd like to help, if I can find some time.
:
: T.J.
:
And I do wish all of you luck on that... don't let an ol' sourpuss like me stop you from doing what you love to do!
