Posted by TJ on 6/22/2008, 10:41 pm, in reply to "Hey TJ maybe you know the answer to this question" WoTC is a subsidiary of Hasbro, and since they own the Dungeons and Dragons trademark, they would know of any licenses for series related material. It depends really on what rights TSR granted Marvel Productions in the 1980's, but I'd _guess_ that any merchandizing rights would have reverted back to WoTC in intervening 25 years. They would be the ones to ask for a definitive answer. If I might offer a suggestion? WotC would never sanction it as official, but I doubt they would send you hate mail if you asked one of the many figure modelers on Internet to craft you figures of our favorite heroes. I haven't heard from Zakiyah in a very long time. I wish I could tell you more. I hope the summer is going well in your part of the world!

Hi, Frodo!
I'm very sorry. I wish I had an answer for you, but I have absolutely no idea.
The last I heard through the grapevine (so I'm unsure), Disney owns broadcast rights to the series. Marvel Productions' portfolio was purchased by Saban, who was then purchased by Fox, who sold the rights to Disney.
It's too bad that WotC didn't think to link the series to this summer's launch of Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition as a merchandizing gimmick. It would have been virtually free press. They would have been perfect iconic characters (example player characters) for the new game books! WotC elected to start over with 4E, with fresh artwork and a new game design. It would have helped with longtime players, who remember the television series, and introduce new game players to the series as well. I realize that it is something of a rant, but Dungeons and Dragons (the game) has always been about friendship and cooperation. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
T.J.
