Hi Nicole,
I hear you - this is got to be one of the worst conditions to try and heal from. I have been seriously considering Extra Corporeal Shockwave Treatments, but the price is very off-putting, especially if it does not make a darn bit of difference. Acupuncture is another option although this is also quite expensive - my useless Blue Cross Plan through work will not cover it!!
Anyhow I am sorry I have no definite good news for you, but rather I am writing to empathise with you, and to promise that if I find something that works for me I will certainly pass it along. Like you I will not do surgery or cortisone shots.
Hopefully someone else who has had some success with a treatment modality will respond to you, and maybe help me too!! :)
Don't give up hope.
Nick
: Hello! I have self-diagnosed PF for
: about 8 months now, started in the
: left foot and now it's in both. I'm
: wondering if any of you who have
: "tried everything" have
: tried anything other than
: conventional allopathic doctors?
: I have some training in homeopathy
: (energy medicine) and clearly see the
: folly of treating such dis-ease with
: suppressive and palliative treatments
: and even surgery! I wouldn't let a
: podiatrist touch me with a 10-foot
: pole. However, I've been told by
: homeopaths that this is a very
: difficult problem to treat
: homeopathically (I haven't tried it
: yet, we're very poor and no
: insurance). I've been to a
: chiropractor, didn't help but could
: only go once. I've given up on
: stretching. Ice feels good but
: doesn't help the pain.
: I tried yoga for a while, but with 3
: kids wanting to climb all over me...
: it wasn't going to work. It did,
: however, give me a good few hours of
: relief after each 20-min workout. At
: some point I will go back to that.
: Good stretching there.
: I've been told MSM, a sulfur
: supplement, may help - especially if
: the cause of the PF is having babies
: close together (I've had 3 babies in
: a little more than 3 years).
: I've been told that the best thing is
: to get good shoes and wear them ALL
: DAY. I put $10 inserts into my work
: boots (good support there, no
: twisting in the sole) and that helps
: me stay on my feet all day - but MAN
: when I get off my feet at the end of
: the day, that's when I just want to
: cry. And that's when the kids need
: fed, the laundry needs doing, etc. :(
: I was wondering about acupuncture.
: I'm wondering about ayurveda. I'm
: wondering whether the
: homeopath/chiropractor in town can
: help me - at $165 a visit, which is
: out of my price range, but looks to
: be much cheaper than allopathic
: "treatment" and more likely
: to actually cure too.
: There's a common procedure used on
: racehorses called
: "pinfiring", when they bow
: a tendon. The vet takes a soldering
: iron like device and burns a hundred
: or so little holes in the leg (often
: in nice patterns, and usually on both
: legs although only one is injured).
: The horse is then put on complete
: rest for 6-8 weeks before slowly
: resuming training. It has been said
: that the REST is what allows the
: tendons to heal, and the only purpose
: to the pinfiring is to force the
: trainer to let the horse rest! So I'm
: wondering if the surgery works simply
: because it forces you to rest
: completely. I'd like to rest for two
: weeks, but it's wildly impractical!
: One week of partial rest is the best
: I can hope for, and I fear that it
: won't help at all.
: Doctors know a lot about disease, but
: virtually nothing about HEALTH, or
: healing, or cure. My feet hurt. I
: want my health back. Sore feet make
: me a bad mommy, and a bad wife, and a
: really bad housekeeper.
: I'm interested to hear from people
: who have used any treatments *other
: than* NSAIDS, steroid shots, or
: surgery.
: Thanks,
: Nicole in KY
