You are right about surgery, usual not a good alternative. I've never taken well to surgery and besides, there's usually a favortism to one side after surgery which can cause even more problems. Most insurance companies want pre-operative authorizations for orthotripsy. I'd call them and ask what they need in order to review your case for a possible approval. I'm telling you, it works! I'm almost 3 months post-ops and I am so happy. It hurts just a little if I play volleyball too much or I go without my orthotics for the morning BUT NOTHING COMPARED TO BEFORE! I don't limp in the morning and if I do (after playing/exercising alot the day before), all I do is stretch and I'm up and off! I just can't believe what a difference it makes. Read through your benefits & get details on certain pre-auth surgeries. My podiatrist was awesome and helped with alot of the the paperwork. I was also in contact with my insurance co to make sure things were getting done & done right. If your podiatrist doesn't like the hassle, switch. They should be more worried about the pain your in & how to help you get out of it than having the deal with paperwork. Push the issue, you'll be glad in the end.
: I am so happy to hear that the
: orthotripsy was successful. I have
: had plantar faciitis for 3 years and
: have run 6 marathons...but under anti
: inflammatories. Had many
: complications with the meds...acid
: reflux and now blood in my urine and
: I was told by the urologist that I
: have been on them for too long...and
: to stop taking them. Now my running
: practically kills me...not so much
: during, but after! I limp all day
: long with shooting, hot flashes of
: pain. MY insurance doesn't want to
: cover the orthotripsy but would cover
: surgery. Surgery results seem not so
: good and lots of pain and suffering
: from what I have read. What are your
: thoughts?

: I've had awful heel pain (plantar
: fascitis) since 10/2002. Tried
: medication, orthotics, more
: medication, shots (steroids) and
: finally had the orthotripsy done.
: WOW! It actually works. First day
: out of sugery a little sore after
: anesthesia wore off but 2nd day and
: after, almost no pain at all!!! If
: you've got heel pain, this is the
: trick. I could barely walk in the
: morning and now I can barely feel my
: heels. AWESOME is all I can say!
