Posted by Phil Sergent To Whom It May Concern: After giving it a lot of thought, I've decided that it is in my best interest to end any involvement at Hat Creek Rim and to conclude my association with the Hat Creek Hang Gliding Committee and the Shasta Sky Sailors. This is effective today, Monday, March 24, 2003. Sincerely,

It was very hard to come to this decision. I've been active with the club and Hat Creek for many, many years. I will certainly miss the satisfaction and rewards of working on the Rim site.
It really is the right time for me to move on. The recent actions of a Hat Creek Committee member provided me with the needed wakeup call to realize this. In an effort to make my decision as low impact and hassle free as possible, I will gladly provide the individual who takes over my role at the Rim with any needed help.
Obviously, I will no longer be active in fund raising for the club or for the Rim and will be turning over all my fund raising records and what few Friend of the Rim decals I have left to Jeff Wade, who is the current club treasurer. If someone wants to continue to produce the Friend of the Rim decal, the site advisory and/or brochure, I have all the information saved on a CD.
I've already arranged with the US Forest Service to have my name removed from the current Use Permit. ItÂ’s important that someone agree to sign a new permit or no permit will be issued and the site could close. I will continue hosting the Hat Creek Rim website until someone takes over the job or until June 1st 2003, whichever comes first. In an effort keep the hundreds of links that other web sites and clubs have to Hat Creek Rim, I'll keep a link at the old web address that will direct readers to the new web address. If no one is interested in hosting the web site, it will be shut down.
This is an opportune time for me to make this departure. The site finances are significant, and even if pending projects are completed, the funds should be more than adequate to sustain the site until fundraising efforts resume.
My decision is not negotiable and I can honestly say I'm happy I made it. As I said before, I've been at this for a long time and I feel I've earned a break. This has been fun at worst and great fun the rest of the time. I truly hope someone is willing step forward to assist in keeping Hat Creek Rim up and running. It is a rewarding and enjoyable experience and I'm glad I had an opportunity to be involved in it
