My grandfather was Newton Judson Harmon and was born in Butts County, GA in 1906. His father was Newton J. Harmon. 1900 census stated that he and his parents were born in Georgia. He was a highly educated man, started the first school in the Butts County area, was a tax collector and editor of the local paper. Yet, I cannot find any records of him or his parents in Georgia. I have searched surrounding counties in vain. I have also visited the county seat (Jackson) looking for answers, and there just aren't any. He and his wife, Leila L. Bankston Harmon are buried in the city cemetery there. Would LOVE to hear from you if you have any more info!!! Maybe I could fill in some of the blanks on your family tree! (we are all nuts!)
